Who can obtain a Burn Permit?

Only residents, businesses, or contractors (as either the Owner or Tenant), living or working in approved areas. Permits are conditional and may be revoked at any time.

How can I obtain a Burn Permit?

You may register online using this website, or you can call County Fire Services, or you can obtain a Burn Permit from your area Fire Guardian, for assistance.

What can I burn?

Fire Bylaw #29-2020 outlines burnable debris as the following: i. straw and stubble, ii. grass and weeds, iii. leaves and tree prunings, iv. brush and fallen trees, v. used power, telegraph and telephone poles that do not contain wood preservatives, vi. wooden materials, which do not contain wood preservatives, from the construction or demolition of buildings, vii. solid waste from post and pole operations that does not contain wood preservatives, or viii. solid waste from tree harvesting operations;

When do I need a Burn Permit?

For any open burning with the exception of Fire Pits, Cooking / Warming Fires, Campfires ALL YEAR ROUND.

What about Fireworks or Burn Barrels?

Consumer / Family Fireworks no longer require a Permit to set off, Burn Barrels do no require a Fire Permit BUT... Please review the County Fire Bylaw #29-2020 for all restrictions and limitations.

What happens if I don't get a Burn Permit?

A Burn Permit is FREE and easily obtained! Why wouldn't you get one? You are missing out on a free education on good burning practices and risk assessment for your property. Not getting a Burn Permit subjects you to potential property loss, endangering the public, and FINES. See County Fire Bylaw #29-2020 for violations.
